e-Tech 300HP motor

Use caution on the 300hp.I know of 2 of them that blew up at around 20hrs.The 250hp is a great motor.The 300hp from what I understand is having cylinder bore troubles because they changed the way they hone them.Has anyone heard of any failure on the 250hp and what was it?I have search the internet an have not found one, and from what I heard they have had zero failures in the field.

See the post 2 above they had the same issues early but I haven't heard much lately other than nit picky stuff on both. I think the problems with the big Yam 2S was excellent timing for Evinrude and the ETEC.

with the floatation that brackets provide and the substantially better hole shot of twins, why would someone buy a 300hp single vs twin 150's? I've ridden in four different 23' CC's (two with brackets, two without) and all had 225-250hp engines.....then I rode in a bracketed 23' with twin 130's (generaider's) and it blew the single engine boats away with about the same horsepower.

Not sure what the MSRP is on the 300 eTec but the new 300hp Suzy 4-stroke has a rather lofty price tag that makes twins seem like a very appealing option for about the same cost as a monster single. Granted, I'm not in the market for a new engine so all this anguish and salivating is for the rest of you [img]/forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]

I would say it comes down to maintenance costs and needs. A lot of guys don't want or need the potential hassle of maintaining 2 engines vs. 1.

I agree that nobody needs the hassle of maintenance costs on twins but if we are talking about $20-22K for a single engine, I figured we were in a whole 'nother chapter by now.

I had twin 150's and went to a single V8 Rude and the boat was sooooo much better with the single, handled like a 20.

OK not quite, but seemed much more nibble
