rub rail question
Has anyone replaced their aluminum rubrail with a rubber one lately? Can this be done easily? Any tips on doing the work?
Thanks for any input. Hank |

Re: rub rail question
Taco sells some nice ones, lots of choices. You will probably need heat and help for the corners

Re: rub rail question
I recomend you go with a rubber rub rail instead of rigid vinel rubber you wont need a heat gun and second they hold up better when bumping the dock, and as far as installing ,you get a 50' section of rub rail find the middle and screw two screws through rub rail onto the bow of the boat, then take the two ends one on each side and pull them straight back over the corners of the transome nice and tight now put 2 screws on the port and starboard back corners through the rub rail , now you can walk on the side of the boat and pull the rub rail like a big rubber band over the flair or curve of the gunwall and it should be tight enough where it does not sag down , line it up with the cap and screw it in , this job usually takes me and my helper every bit of two to three hours sorry I dont have pictures of the process good luck.

Re: rub rail question
Fiberglassman, thanks for the solution you offered. Can I order one of the rubber ones from West Marine or do I have to find a different source? I like your idea, it seems like it's lots simpler. I hope to do this within the next month or so.
Look forward to your answer. HankV |
