Deflection at chine?

Finally getting around to cleaning off the old (probably original-1976) tape lines along the hull and I noticed a slight deflection or bend in the side of the hull about 1" above the chine (see pic's). I don't remember seeing this on other hulls; is it standard and does anyone know what it is for?

That's in the design. Same thing on my '72 Seafari and '74 Tsunami. It works like a mini reverse-tumblehome.

Yes I have that on my 20 as well. I don't know what it's function is but I have wondered about it like you.

See the change in color just below the lower tape line; it's actually a shadow line along a change in angle of about 2^ to 3^ out from the side of the hull.

I think that's what's called a reverse chine but I may be wrong.

CSN - my seafari has that, as well - look close, just about an inch above the chine. My guess is it might have to do with design to ease removal from the hull mold.

and speaking of removing boot stripes - I guess it's time for the next installment !

Here it is:
"The purpose of the molded indent just above the hard chine is to facilitate the hull breaking suction from the water, therefore allowing the hull to plane with less power"

That's from one of the VP's at Pro-Line, whose boats also have that feature.
