I'm with you, you need the support or it will crack the glass all around it. After installing mine on the sides, the next riggers will be on the deck which is a LOT stiffer for the best support, especially with longer poles. I couldn't catch any fish anyway (that's what "botapeje" means in Puerto Rico: BAD FISHERMAN!!!) but I looked cool!!
