Default Set Back -Bracket height- Outboard mounting height

I know this have been done a few times, but. What is the formula for set back to engine height. As you go back you go up. You set back 12" and raise it up 1/2 ?

I think it is 1 inch for every 12" back. Most brackets are setup for about 2.5".
