These valves operate using a switch with a cable u would need one for the port and one for the starboard side .if u are under way u open them if you are standing in the back with two other big fellows u close them.the web site is www.flow-rite.com. have a look it might help fix someones problem.The swicthes could be mounted on the console or helm station
