which sceptre to buy ?
I am new to the sea craft, plan to purchace this month, what top speed could I exspect out of a 23 spectre I.B. yanmar 230 hp., straight shaft, I.B.? Also will the I.B. be a hassle to launch off a toirsion susp. nextel alum. trailer?

Most straight drive have trailers built just for them.

Re: which sceptre to buy ?
I don't think loading and unloading will be a problem, other than that is a heavy boat. I loaded/unloaded one on Sat without any problem, but it had a 350 merc, not a diesel. You just have to make sure you have enough weight over the back wheels of the tow vehicle, especially if the ramp is wet or has algae on it. As for the trailer, just make sure the bunks are tall enough that it clears the running gear.
As far as speed, probably cruise at 25-27, top end in the low/mid 30's. It depends on fuel load, how big of a top you have, and how much weight your carrying around. The inboard boats I have been on seem to be really stern heavy, and under 25 mph, you need tabs to keep the back end up. Also, plan on putting a pair of rabud or equiv ball scuppers, or your gonna have wet feet. |

Re: which sceptre to buy ?
thanks for the repley, I did not buy the boat yet, or see it in person, I used to buy and refurbish airplanes, I am out of that now, my foalks have a place on Hutchinsen Iland on the river, and I need a boat to use, now that i have a place to go, great area for boaters, so I hope to meet some of you guys when i get it together and down there. Back to the diesel i.b., its not a v-drive, looks like a srtaight shAFT. My concern is that its a 4 cly. yanmar, its light, and it sits to far forward. I belive the guy said it was a 17" prop, and it was not that fast, mid 20"s, he dont run it hard, I know thats probablly the most economical set up, but not ifr you want speed. Also looking at another 23 spectre with twin 115"s susks. , and my concern is it may be to heavy back there, straight transom, no bracket. And a piece of plywood to stop the water from comming in when slowing down.

Re: which sceptre to buy ?
that 23 i.b. I am really concidering does have a brand new alum. nexrtax ? tandom axle , torsion susp. and was deliverd to him, claims the trailer looks great. the seller told me that the bunks would have to raised 6-8 ins., in order to fit that 23 i.b.. I took a look at Mark R. "Kahili" and that looks like a fine set-up fit, but I think I would like to add a pair of guides.

Re: which sceptre to buy ?
Twin 115s shouldn't be too heavy at all...look at Jaizzen's
twin 250s or PeterB's twin 200s. |

Re: which sceptre to buy ?
Until you go over 750 to 800 pounds its fine, keep in mind the outboaerds are tad more versitile in Fl with the shallow water and all the sandbars loaded with hot chicks with no cloths on, you need to get close
If you want to play with numbers figure out the value of the 115's vs a 250 or 300 Etec
