I've caught more sails on slick calm days than I have on 2-4' days. I'm sure others have exactly the opposite situation hold true. Then again, every sail I've caught except for one has been on a wire leader and I hear they won't bite those either

Speaking of wire , whats under your thumb? Theres still some Kings overhere on May Reef and I want one for the smoker. Whats your connection from wire to mono? I used nylon coated, coffee colored 7-strand in the past and albrighted it to the mono. Seems to be in low supply and can only find uncoated now which cuts the mono. I've tried a long length of wire with a swivel connection and dont get any strikes. With a short peice of wire and swivel ,I get strikes but they hit it above the swivel and cut me off. I'm using black swivels and not the shiney ones. Whats your thoughts?

I don't do anything too fancy, I use about 12" of single strand wire and one of two connections depending on how much time I have:

when in a hurry: Albright knot connecting wire to mono.

when I have loads of time: A haywire twist with one of those very small Spro swivels (80# if I recall - the inline type that cost so much) in the wire loop and then just a uni-knot to connect the mono to the swivel.

I've not noticed any advantage of one of the above methods over the other.

Thanks Ike, maybe I need more wraps in my albright. I have wanted to try those tiny inlines , but no one seems to be able to keep the tiny ones in stock. Couple of high end tackle shops around but they think their stocks made out of gold. Guess I'll bite the bullet. Also, the more I think about it, your SeaCraft is what has to be raiseing all those sails

I was wrong, it's the 150#'s, I think that is as small as that style comes in:

Worstmarine does have a spot on their shelf for the 80's but but maybe they're to stupid to realize that theres no such product. I googled and couldn't find any 80's

Use an albright as blackswivels get whacked by hoo`s and smoker kings too. Supposedly they wont hit silver just black.

I use 17 wraps on #7 wire 21 for lighter all the way down to #3 which is what I use if it`s sail time.

Albright Knot does the trick. NO Swivel.
