Cables on Screptres

When originally manufactured, what was run from the steering station to the stern. During the restoration on my 1977 Sceptre, I have found "cardboard tubes" under the top cap and evidence of cables being run under the deck cap. Since I have the top cap removed and inverted, I was thinking of installing a PVC pipe for running wires, etc in that location and installing a second PVC pipe under the deck. I am about to install a new deck for the fuel tank and would like to run this PVC under the deck as high as possible. I am installing Hyrdaulic steering on this boat and am curious as to where this should run along with the engine control cables (single outboard). Any info will help. Everything was run in the bilge when I stripped the boat.

I found those on my Tsunami as well....and I'm deciding whether I should run full PVC, or just cut some slices
of PVC tube like the cardboard tubes. I would love to see some shots of your cap off the boat, and of the forward area with the cabin.

I'll take some pictures and post. I cut the top into three pieces to remove and have just completed glassing them back together from the bottom. Now I have to do the cosmetic work of glassing and repairing from the "inside". Hope to have both pieces ready for Awlgrip by the first of January.

I'll post some of mine as well. I have two '74 Tsunamis...one was an I/O converted to OB...the second an OB version. I've cut the livewell and transom cap out of the OB version and have the transom just about down to the outer skin. On the I/O version I have the whole cap where I can lift it off the hull, but haven't actually removed it yet. That boat just needs more work than the OB so I'm working on the OB first. There are some interesting and subtle differences betwen the two that I think must have been who did the layup. Things like cleat nuts glassed over on the OB version but not on the I/O version.

I've made a mold using the cap from the I/O version by screwing 1/4 luan to it to get the shape, then using a laminate trimmer to get it even with the corners all the way around, then glassing struts to it to get it to hold the shape. The "shoebox" edges I can screw to the struts so they will be removable when it's time to pull the mold apart.....it might turn out to be reusable. It seems to have worked but I won't know for sure until I glass the cap and try to remove it. I'm still tweaking what I want to to on the transom cap....internal livewell or not, etc. I'd like to put a door in but that might be more complexity than I can handle. It would be a nice touch to go with the seamark twin bracket.

If I started this project right now I would do an enclosed transom. I have learned alot about the Sceptres, my fav boat. The livewell is completely useless as is, I was going to remove mine but was told by a friend that is a friend of the builder that it is structurally part of the boat. So I am going to reuse it but is will drain into the bilge and only be used as storage, probably for a spare anchor and oil mix if I go 2 stroke. I am almost ready to dry fit the top to the bottom and then go for painting. Really a solid boat.

Ken thats only two months for assembly,but if you work at

Thanks alot Duane !!
You & Tiny are more then welcome to come on over and
get itchy and scratchy after a day of grinding fiberglass.

That way I might have her done by the time Long Point
comes around....
