Max speed 38kts at 6300 rpm's. I may go to 24" props to drop the rpm's down to 5900 or so. http://www.classicseacraft.com/forum...rev=#Post51742 |

Don’t know your budget but I purchased a pair of used Yamaha 130’s from a dealer and rebuilt them. I have about $3,000 invested, $500 to purchase them and $2500 in parts to rebuild them. Performance numbers are not as good as a 4-stroke, but not bad.

et23,
Keep an eye on EBAY this time of year. There are a lot of cheep 2-strokes available. Also, Suzuki 250 four-strokes that are being traded out for 300's. Nice Suzuki 250 for $12,500. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2006y...spagenameZWDVW

$8,000 - $10000 buys a LOT of fuel.
3mpg vs. 2.3mpg Atlantis, Veatch, Hydrographer Canyons aren't out of range now ![]() here's some stats of a 29ft oceanmaster powered by twin 2.0L mercs . . . You can find a set of these for 2 - 3K and they'll give you similar fuel economy to the Yamaha 130's. ![]() |

I think Im going to probabaly go with the 300 zuke. I think that I should be able to get close to 3 mpg at 30 knot cruise and maybe upwards of 2.25-2.5 at about 40-42 knots. with the standard 100 gal plus ~40 in an external tank in the console I should have comfortable range for veatch/ west Atlantis etc to go load up on YFT and BET.
older engines really arent an option for me. while they may save me some $ in the short run, I CANT have my boat in the shop in the summertime. Not an options with comm bass and charters going. I gotta be able to pay for this thing somehow.

I switched out my 22" props for 24" SS props on my twin 115's. The bow now runs a little flatter which I like but I lost a little trimability. My cruise speed is now about 2kts higher and top speed comes in at 39kts(hit 40 once) at 5900+rpm's. This is on a 23 CC with an enclosed transom and bracket. To answer this thread's initial question about the 140's since it is essentially the same block as the 115 (slightly bored out) and a higher gear ratio, my best guestimate is 2mph better at cruise and wot. If I had to buy new motors I would go with the 300 Suzuki. From everything I have read, mpg would be in the mid 3 range and top speed about 44kts(50mph) A guy on THT just put a 300 on his 25 bluewater and is really getting great fuel numbers, even better than with the 250 Suzi. Weight is an issue also, my 115's with ss props come in around 430 each vs. 630ish for the single 300. When I repower, I will go with a single 300. The 115's have been practically flawless. 45 miles offshore I never wonder "what if"
