Filling Scratches
I have a bunch of scratches to fill-in on my bottom before painting. Most have not broken the gelcoat, the deeper ones I filled in. Can I get by with a glazing compound? I'm looking for something easy to work with overhead. Suggestions welcomed.

Re: Filling Scratches
If you are going to be putting an epoxy based coating on such as interlux interprotect 2000 before the bottom paint then glazing putty is fine. If you are not going to do that. Then interlux makes epoxy filler
http://store.hamiltonmarine.com/browse.cfm/4,15413.html also system 3 quick fair is expoxy based. I have become intimate with this product http://store.hamiltonmarine.com/browse.cfm/4,26730.html

Re: Filling Scratches
why not fill with gelcoat? Thicken it with cabosil until it becomes a paste . . . use razor blades to spread and level . . . acetone to clean up. Make sure you prep the spot first.

Re: Filling Scratches
3M Premium filler is a vinyl ester based putty that sands easily and works above and below the waterline. Comes with cream hardener. I have been using for years. I call it boat bondo. Great stuff. For small scratches you can use Evercoat, a polyester putty similar to the 3M stuff but you can't fill large voids with it. West Marine probably has both.
