Default Yamaha fuel management gauge

Got one last year, ran fine for about 95 hours, now it won't show fuel burn rate. All the wiring and connections seem O.K.
Took the sender unit out and the screen on the inlet end seems clean and clear. Blow into the sender from either end and I can hear a turbin type sound, so I assume the wheel (or whatever is in there) is spinning.

Anyone had a similar problem? If so, is there a fix (I have not taken the bottom plate off yet)? I'm told that the part only has a 90 day warranty and that Yamaha does not sell replacement sender units.
