Default Hull number location for 1976 Seacraft cuddy

Hi can anyone out there help me in locating a second hull ID number. My boat hull has been refinished and there is no sign of original hull number. I am in the process of trying to register the boat in my home state prior to taking it down to Baja and was told by the former owner that there may be second hidden hull number location. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

I believe by 76 the were stamped on the starboard transom just above the lifting eyes. You may also find a small foil plate either on the bulkhead under the steering wheel or lower portside gunwale near the deck where a passenger would put his left foot... Should also be on the title and prior registrations...

Thanks for the reply. The only numbers I can find are on the transom on the inside of the boat centered about 2 feet up from the deck. It appears to be a 4 digit number stamped into the fiber glass. I have a custom built helm so any plates have long since been removed. THe DMV here needs to confirm that the hull matches the registration before they will register and title the boat here in Idaho. The boat came from New York and never did have a title as they were not required prior to 87 there. I will check by the passenger seating area for a number but I don't recall seeing anything in that area.

bajadiver, why don't you post a couple of pics of the boat and the number you found, there are some folks on this board that can really offer great insight. Is the boat a Sceptre or a Seafari cuddy? If there is no title, how did you identify the model year?

Hull ID numbers were not required until 1972 when titles were introduced. In NY transfer of a boat made before that date are done with a transferable registration which you should have received when you purchased the boat signed by the owner and signing it over to you. If you stayed in NY they would have accepted this transferable registration as an equal to a title. If the registration or title was lost you can pay $2 or so and have a title search done by the state DMV showing the last registered owner. That and a bill of sale should suffice. You may never know the hull number of your boat.

I do have the transferable registration from NY plus a bil of sale so I am good there. The DMV here just wants somthing to make sure that there is somthing to tie it to the hull. I will get some pics taken and posted. It is a wonderful boat completely redone by a guy in Long Island. Thanks for your help!

Find yourself a shop that does engraving or where
they make those small specialty plastic signs for doors,
desks, etc... I had two made and placed them on my 70 SF.
That should satisfy DMV.
