Default Sealing deck hatches

So here's the question.
I'd like to seal the two deck hatches on my 1975 23SF.
The one on the casting platform stays fairly dry, as it has those two little gutters, but the one in the main floor in front of the console and the small on in the deck in front of my engine box(which looks like it may have been a livewell in days of yore) allow quite a bit of water into the bilge. I'm not interested in making them completely dry-just keeping most of the rainwater on the deck and out the scups.
Have any of you had good luck with any particular gasket material on the raised lip of these hatches? I got some black stuff from West for the seat hatch in front of the console a few years ago, but it seems to stick to the gel on the underside of the hatch and then tear off at times. I'm looking for something a little more durable. Specific suggestions are very welcome!
Thanks OF
