Default Amityville,Babylon ,Long Island Ny ,help

A question for any of you on Long Island NY.My son has been offered a transfer with his company to Either Chicago,or Long Island NY.
He has ruled Chicago out,as he wants to be closer to us(family)in Massachusetts.
His office will be in Amityville,Long Island, and he would like to be within a reasonable drive from work to home.He has kind of looked in the Babylon area, but I'm sure there's other areas that would also be good.

Anyone have any info on nice areas around that location. He's figuring that he can spend around 400,000 on a house. It looks like real estate is still very pricey there. Is it better to go further east?

Now the good thing,He wants to get a boat.He fished with me during his younger years, but grew older, got married, and got away from fishing.
Now that he'd be close to the ocean,he wants to get a boat, and his wife is even ok with it.
I figure what better boat than a SeaCraft, and now that i have done mine, maybe we could eventually pick one up for him,a 23 for sure.It would be great to have two SeaCrafts in the family.

Hows the fishing in that area? any info would be helpful, thanks guys.

Good bassing and fluking (as well as bottom fishing.)

Not too far from one of the best spots on the planet (Montauk).

Here are a couple of fishing web sites that will give you local area reports

Noreast.com web page
The Fishing Line web page

Good luck.

Peter

I've lived in the general area for 37 years -
As with any area some places are better than others -but it is a great place with Fire Island & Fire Island , Jones Beach Inlets close by.
Great bay fishing if you want to stay inside.
Boston is about 5 hours away.
You can get 2 different ferries to the mainland -
Port Jefferson & Orient Point
I would recommend Long Island!

Yes house price are high, what really gets you are the insane real estate taxes. Going east does not reduce price, just the opposite they go up. If your son needs a good real estate agent on the south shore let me know. Fishing ok in the great south bay, better in moriches, very good in schinnecock, insane at montauk.
Sea Craft is ideal boat for this area. He will have to import not many available.

Babylon, especially the Village part is a really nice place to live as are just about all of the surrounding areas, West Islip, Bayshore, Brightwaters, etc. However, as stated earlier its VERY expensive to live on the Island. He can get a decent house for 400K, especially if he's handy and willing to do some work himself.

There is a decent market for jobs on LI as well, so if in the future he leaves his company for whatever reseaon there shoiuld be ample work and industry for him to work in.

NY City is about a 55-60 minute train ride from that area.

I'm not sure if it concerns your son and his wife, but the school systems on Long Island are amongst the best in the nation (partly the reason why the taxmen here bend you over).

Ok, now for the important stuff: The fishing and boating is great, especially around those parts. Bass fishing, wreck/bottom fishing, fluke and offshore are all very good and if you don't mind the cold you can fish year round.
