When you say "big" stringers, what exactly do you mean? The reason i ask is if you notice the last picture i posted showing the interior of the transom you will notice that the deck basically sits on two massive "stringers" that go all the way fwd. I thought this might have been the previous owners redo attempt. I will have to investigate a bit more though.
