Default Re: Trouble with gelcoat

Ifin it was me, I would use the Interlux underwater epoxy filler,, sand it, it sands well, apply two coats interprotect 2000, is the boat going to live in the water it's whole life? If it is I would put three coats interprotect, if it is just a w/e splash, I would consider not doing it at all.just fill with epoxy and bottom paint it, As said before polyester fillers absorb water. Thanks 3rdday, you know your stuff.

It's kept in a lift. Was going to use 545 on top of qwick fair then Awlgrip finish coats. Not using gelcoat. My first time using these products but I thought these were all epoxy based. Product website said 545 could be used below waterline. Just trying to get it right before wasting money and effort. Thanks for the help

Try Jamestown Distributors on the net. Search hull blisters. They have West System videos on repair. Gelcoat Blister Repair with West System Epoxy - A guide for repairing and preventing gelcoat blisters on fiberglass boats. Analyzing the causes of blister formation, preparing and drying fiberglass hulls, and repairing and coating for moisture protection with WEST SYSTEM epoxy.
