strick, im seriously think that im going to hang a 300 outboard on a floatation bracket... did some research on armstrong brackets and the are supposed to 400 +/- lbs. therefore 3/4 of the engine weight will be floating on the bracket... maybe im thinking down the wrong track? i would think the diesel option would be much heaveir... i currently have a 350 i/o with volvo 280 outdrive i belive the package weighs in the neighborhood of 1200 lbs. so 300 suzuki(604 lbs.) and armstrong bracket( approx. 80 lbs.) seems to be alot less than 1200 lbs... i understand center of gravity will change but am i missing something or am i making it sound better than it should... my .02... i can vouch for the great ride of these boats there has been a few times that i didnt think that i was going to make it home from offshore and the ole seacraft just chugged her way through the slop and found her way home, didnt even foam up my beer...

Cummins/Mercruiser 4.2L ES 320 hp weighs 1015 lbs for the motor, 165lbs for a Bravo One drive, and 65 lbs for the transom group, for a total of 1245 lbs, or just 36 lbs more than what you have now. It won't mess up your CG and potentially have a detrimental effect on your rough-water performance, It will use much less fuel than even a 300 four-stroke Zuke, have a projected engine life of 10 thousand hours or MORE, compared to 2000 for the OB, and cost about $30K installed.

Here it is shown with a Bravo 3 drive.

Even if you get 2X the fuel mileage with the diesel, the cost savings at the end of the useful life of the gas engine brings the cost of the diesel down to $25K.

My question is how many of us have put on 2,000 hours on a boat, re-powered and kept the boat?

IMO unless you are commercial or are planning on keeping the boat for ever, diesel still costs to much.

I agree, you could buy 2 Zukes for that, that cabin weighs something and my Sceptre rode heavier in the bow than a CC.
