Default What i got my mom for mothers day...

Her first dolphin!
i know i have it good when mom doesnt want anything else for mothers day but the spend the day on the boat with the family, shes not much of a fisherlady, just likes to sit out there and read, but i told her if shes coming she has to fish.

got a later start then usual and was out the inlet by 7:30 and made out way out to 750' where we put the spread out. same 5 line spread. in 900' the naked bally off the transom clip pops. i set up and pass the rod off to mom as a little bull goes airborne.

mom on the rod:

she made quick work of it and he was all alone so we threw him in the box.

the smile says it all:

in the same area (900') there was little skip jacks busting all over. we worked em over for a good hour, but only managed 1. around 10:00 quite a few boats started showing up there so we decided to run way off.

about 22 miles out we found some scattered weeds and flyers and put the spread back out. made our way to about 25 out before we decided to make the run back in. i volunteered to ride in the tower on the way in and keep a look out.
we were cruising in @ 25mph and at 20 miles off i spot something out of the corner of my eye as we are flying past.
i throw my head back and see a big dark spot, first thought it was a shark then i saw stripes, wahhhoooooo!!, i started screaming, almost crapped myself. anyways we stopped turned around and found the fish, he was just free swimming on the surface.
we followed it for close to an hour he would not eat anything, trolled the rigged ballys in front of his face, chummed sardines and ballys but he did not touch a single one. seemed like a sick fish as he would swim right next to the boat (just out of freegaff range), after 45 minutes we gave up on trying to get him to eat and just snapped a few cool pictures... these are taken with the fish free swimming no more then 10ft from the side of the boat.

obviously nothing for scale but that was a solid 35-40# class hoo... ohh well he wins

we run in and there were hardly any boat fishing off singer island so we just headed straight for the inlet

todays haul and one happy mom:

4 hours later it looked like this:

hope everyone elses mothers day was a good as ours!

Ben,
You`re killing me with the tuna pics. Yummm.
Maybe get Mom her own custom rod for x-mas? Bet she`d want to fish more.
Something was definately wrong with that Hoo. Glad you didn`t eat it. Wanna go out Fri?
