Next time I see him, I'm going to ask him what happens to that foam cored hull if he hits a floating hatch cover offshore at 30 kts!

If the outer skin gets damage that allows the force of the water to hydraulicly delaminate it the hull will most likely fail. I have seen it happen on some cored hull boats.
