To check the motor with a three wire Trim and Tilt bypass the solenoid/relay.

blue wire to Positive = Trim UP
green Wire to Positve = Trim Down
Black Wire = Ground (duh!)

Make sure you have a good ground.

I have several sets of these relays/solenoids and I have three wire motors too. The 3 wire motors are a PIA to replace . . . after you do one you'll wish you had the Old Style Single Ram Piston with External Trim and Tilt Pump (Still used on the racing motors).

I have two external pumps too. Same test for the external pump . . . since it has the three wire motor. Could be solenoid/relay . . . or motor. Putting current directly to the motor will test you right away.

well i went out there and tapped it with a hammer a few times and it started to work . i stopped going down and it will not restart while being tapped on. i will perform a voltage test when the rain stops.

sorry about the delay it is the solenoids. one of the big lug terminals is loose in the housing and makes contact temporally . i need to replace the solenoids, are these the same ones that ford trucks use or are the different since this is a marine enviroment?

i think they are the same ones that are used on your starter motor. no i dont think you can use the ones from a ford truck. might want to get the marine ones for this application. just my opinion.
