one of the main reasons I bought my 23 cc was to travel around a bit with the boat and fish some other areas, does anyone here on the site run a boat out of hatteras, I have fished down there once about 5 years ago. I was planning to go sometime in Oct or later this month and give it a try. I am tired of running up here in NJ 100 miles in my 42ft to try to catch fish. do you guys think a 23 is boat enough to fish out of hatteras am I just spinning
my wheels making the trip. any info would be helpful |

dog,
you should have no problems going out of hatteras in a 23'...just have to watch the weather reports a little closer and be careful going in and out of the inlet, other then that you will enjoy the much shorter trip... ![]() |

Gotta love the "SeaCraft Confidence!"
Newburyport is reputed to be the 3rd most treacherous inlet on the east coast. I can't tell you how many experienced and knowledgable skippers have made admiring comments with regrad to my scepter's ability to handle some of the Newburyport Nasties. (East flowing 3-4 kt. Merrimac River plus outgoing tide current smacking into a very narrow inlet All moving against a 15- 20 knot east wind and sea - can you say interesting fun! Yes, there are plenty of days you say, "Maybe tomorrow- I rather be around to make that choice.)

yeah i run my 25' seafari about 2 times a month out of hatteras inlet and oregon inlet. very doable just pay close attention to the weather because it can go from heaven to hell in a matter of minutes. if i were planning a trip now i would be heading to ocean city, md...

I Used to work there on the ferry and I've fished there to.Took my 20 there when I had nightshift and fished for cobias.A 23 is fine but pay attention to the weather.A good storm swell from a hurricane 100s of miles away and Hatteras Inlet can get nasty.

there is a pretty good billfish bite in hatteras now, but there has been a good tuna and an occasional wahoo in ocean city now. maybe end of sept beginning of oct. hatteras will be hot as the tuna get further south. i only fish for the species that i care to eat.

Oct brings tuna, wahoos, and some big kings. For the tuna and wahoos fish your stuff a little futher back than normal.A planer rod wont hurt you if youve got one.Try to put about 50 to 75 feet of mono between your planer and your wire (for wahoo) leader. Two colors to pull blue/white and white/blue.Also for the kings you might try the bad bottom, avon rocks or the smell wreck. good luck

I love hatteras and haved had the pleasure of living on the great Outer banks of north carolina for ten years now i have fished all over the beach up and down, the fall bite brings alot of action as i write this im on my couch in Kitty Hawk North Carolina it is the Sixth Anniversery of losing my home to hurricane Isabel in hatteras village but my seacraft made it i brought it and my truck back with me to va little did i know when i left the hurricane would take the road and i would need the "One of A Kind" my 23'
