Default pourable transom

just curious if anyone knows the difference between the seacast and nidacore brands. theres a significant price difference between the two so there must be some pros and cons. seacast is over $220 for a 5 gallon pail whereas nidacore is only $140 for a 5 gallon pail. thanks in advance!

My brother and I just finished our transoms with the Arjay ceramic compound, which I'm told is the same as Nidacore. Check out both web sites, exact same info on both. We both did it the hard way, cut out the back of the transom, cleaned out all the wood, put the back back on and poured. I'm really impressed with this stuff!! Hardens like steel and as you know no rot ever. If you decide to go this way I'll give you some very important pointers from lessons learned. Oh yeah, it's only $120 per 5gal pail. My brother and I bought 7 pails and got a nice discount.

How many buckets did it take to do the transom?

3 1/2 pails. I had it calculated at 16.75 gallons. I used the Arjay formula for the volume plus as a double check I also went to the Seacast web site to get their formula to figure the volume, pretty simple. I filled all the way to within 1" to the top of the transom splashwell sides. There was no wood left in the transom when I poured, so this should be pretty much the same volume for most all the 23' SFs.
