new motor- what prop?
I'm replacing a johnson 140 with an evinrude 150xp on my
SF20. The evinrude comes with a 14 1/4x21 omc prop. The motor was on a 17' seaswirl spyder. That doesn't seem appropriate for the seacraft. My usual water is Oregon pacific coast bays (wind chop), and ventures out over the bar on calm days (4-6' swell, light winds).Mid range torque is important! What do you all think would be a good choice? |

Re: new motor- what prop?
Expeirienced prop shops have a wealth of experience and knowledge. They also will frequently LOAN a prop or two for testing. If they should cost a bit more, sounds like a good investment to me.
God luck and be well.

Re: new motor- what prop?
I have a '96 OceanPro with a 15x17 SS on my 20SF. Tops out @ 40 mph - not sure of the fuel burn, pretty good performance all-around. I'm going to try a 19 to see how it effects the top-end, etc. You should be pretty safe in the 17 - 19 pitch range. Maybe someone is running something outside that range will chimne in?

Re: new motor- what prop?
I agree that will be too much - a 17 or 19 depending on your usual load - the 17 would help keep you on plane slower and with larger loads. Try that one first if you would and get a WOT RPM - that will make it easier to pinpoint
