Default Gelcoat halo

Previous owner to my 18' took off the TRAKKER stickers off both sides of boat. In the right light you can see the perfect outline of the letters along with the SeaCraft swirl logo. The finish is perfect where the lettering was, the exposed gelcoat just a bit yellow or offcolor.

Before I test various techniques to even out the whole thing, anyone have a hint on how best to achieve success here? Not looking for a showroom job!

I tried to take a picture but it just wasn't showing up.

Tx!

Good luck. I have spent hours of labor and too much money trying to do the same to my '76. It is tough, but I can still make out most of the letters of two of the previous names of the boat. The only thing I have not tried yet is wet sanding the hull. This would probably work, but after 30+ years I'm afraid I might go through the gelcoat.

a high speed buffer and 3m diamond cut polishing compound(black bottle) usually does the trick. we used it quite a bit at the marina i used to work at to buff out where decals where removed, you might end up doing the entire boat to make the shine match. fairly low speed(1000-1500rpm) and take your time but keep it moving usually does the trick.

What will most likely take place is this. You will still see the outline for a while. The more the boat is out in the sun the less the outline will show. After a while it will disappear. Sun in this case is your friend and not the enemy.

The above comment on buffing is the right way to do it.
