Thanks.. It is drying just a little darker than sky blue... it is ocean blue

Gillie,
yes scuppers are thru hull..no garboard type transom drain plug either..and you are correct... previous pics showing fiberglass exhaust tubes thru transom (those rubber type flappers fit over the outside of the exhaust tubes)

Looks sweet Fred!
Your gonna love the stability and fuel burn. I used to fish a friends Shammy and ALL day for 50 clams or less.
What are your power plans?
I see steals here and there.

Cheers,
GFS

Default Tsunami questions/final coat

Mike ...does look like it would be very close to your original gelcoat.

Terry..I am going with a white bootstripe or yes red!! and black bottom paint...Vivid in white is out of my price range..plus dont have patience to get bottom perfectly faired out etc.

Sany...how ya been?
Currently has 305 in it..got it running for a very short period of time without water running through it ..need to get heat exchanger for hoses that seem to go no where..I found heat exchanger brackets though in all the boxes...
Looking to purchase fwc 350 from guy who is repowering with diesels..but gonna see what I can do with current setup first..email me if you see any deals out there fdheld@bellsouth.net

Got the final coat on--2 seems to be the ticket. I used about two quarts of paint. Had to thin it today..guess due to humidity and got a couple of runs in the paint

Some questions for anyone to answer..greatly appreciated

1. Will this Pettit Easypoxy buff out... if needed for imperfections.
If so what grit for wetsanding and type of compound, also what type of buffing bonnett (sponge/wool?)

Also...
2. Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced brand of bottom paint to use for a trailered boat.Wont be in water for extended periods of time... Vivid is out of my budget. I will be using black.

Here are pics..have to touch up below rub rail..my tape job was not too good but turned out ok for Driveway paint job..next is bottom or might jump to topside..to get crap back on boat and out of garage.

That's a nice color. Stick with the white boot stripe. Much cleaner look...
Regarding bottom paint, I think Bushwacker said the Signature finishes held up very well to his month(s) long submersion tests... Don't know the cost or difficulty in application...

I used it on my transom after the rebuild because of Capt. Chuck's high recommendation. At first I thought it was a bit expensive, he sells it more by the square footage you are covering than volume. It went way beyond the square footage I was expecting with four coats. It's actually very easy to apply when you get the hang of it after the first coat. Because I only painted the transom I did not polish the "orange peel" out of the surface, For my application it looks VERY good as it came out. It's all done with 3" rollers...a wet one to apply the paint and a dry one to smooth it out. Rest assured, Denny has done the research and if he's good with it......enough said. The one thing that you have to do is be able to measure in small quantities, actually was pretty easy after the first time.

Thanks for the info guys...I know Denny put several days and hours of labor into his bottom project with excellent results...and I know Tom sells a great product..
I just dont know if I have that kind of patience to get everything perfect plus the cost too..etc...but I will ponder it for a while.

I used some plastic syringes to mix the bootstripe paint - very easy to do and very accurate mixture. I believe 8 cc's of paint + 2 cc's of catalyst + 4 cc's of flow fluid (thinner) was just about right. Tom's formula of 8 sq. ft/oz is very accurate. If you mix too much, it'll keep overnight if you put it in a tightly sealed container, then you can use it the next day, with maybe a little more thinner!

I didn't have the patience to use those little 3" trim rollers on the bottom! The 4 and 6" ones I mentioned in my post, sold at Lowes for cabinets, will work well if you use the wet roller/dry roller method. Denny

Fred,

1. Send an e-mail to Pettit and ask them!

2. Since it was soda blasted, I would seriously consider putting some Interprotect on that bottom before you paint it. It sands really easy but cures very hard, and will help smooth out the bottom, even if you don't do all the filling and fairing like I did. A 1 gallon kit (currently on sale at West) would probably give you a couple of coats; not enough for full blister protection, but good enough for a trailer boat. Then you could just put some Easypoxy over it (maybe with a contrasting stripe on side of steps! ), which I think would hold up under water, although the sun will eventually cause it to fade. However if you paint the bottom white, you might not notice the fading. Denny
