So I applied to B US online. Looks like they arbitrarily choose to only insure this (year) boat up to $15K yet sight unseen they want a picture, etc. All this for $440/year.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Current photographs of your boat.
The hull identification number is required.
The coverage quoted is the maximum we can offer on your boat.

I am not sure what the deal is but I have over 3x that amount of coverage on my new 1977 (agreed hull value) and the annual fee is about the same. I dont see any restrictions on my policy for usage besides commercial.

Sorry I steered you in the wrong direction. Maybe it is cheaper in Michigan? I did have a very recent PDF file of the appraisal/survey I had done when I bought it.

Maybe there was some sort of misunderstanding?

I don't know too much about insurance except that I hate the premiums and I hope I never have a claim!

Sorry it didnt work out for you...i assumed it would be similar coverage/price etc or I wouldnt have mentioned it at all

Steve

It's worth checking around on everything we insure. I do know coastal and especially hurricane prone areas are higher. I find it "controlling" on their part to automatically limit coverage to $15k regardless. It could be a POS or freshly restored and they don't have a clue. They will reimburse for missed fishing tournaments in the event of a claim though
