Default Lost gas cap on '71 Seacraft 20

Any suggestions on finding a replacement cap? Having a really difficult time finding one or even a make shift replacement. A marine store sold me one that is an inch and a half in diameter and said they're universal and that it would fit. $30 later...it didn't fit. Someone please help?!?!

Brenda, you may have to replace the entire assembly, but you might try the Sea Chest in Riveria Beach on US 1, right across the street from BOW. It's a marine salvage place that has all sorts of stuff, usually pretty cheap. Don't let the looks of the place scare you off - a real nice gal runs the place and might be able to help. Denny

I lost mine and found that a 1 3/4 metal water fill cap at West Marine works fine
been using it for about 2 years no problem

Ah yes, the Sea Chest.. One of my favorite haunts. I shopped there frequently when I lived up that way and found lots of great things for my previous boat. I was planning on going up there if I couldn't find anything close to me. I'm in Lantana now. I think I'll try Tuppen's first then try out the water replacement caps if not. I'm leaving town for 20 days, so I may have to do a temp. fix until I can make it to the Sea Chest upon my return. Thanks for all the tips!

The water one at 1 3/4" I think, worked on mine but I lost that one and haven't been able to find another one. The blacl plastic locking one in 1 7/8 is the only one I have been able to find - I hate it though so always looking
