I have an opportunity to purchase a seacraft 23 1978 savage inboard center console cuddy.Should I leave it inboard power or set it up as an outboard when purchased?

Unless top end speed is your only objective, leave it as an inboard. Without a doubt an extremely fine handling craft in a very W-I-D-E range of sea conditions; particulary rough ones.
If you have to have an outboard- get one. There are plenty around. Just my 2 cents.

Inboards are great; center of gravity is low and further forward, transom is closed and clear, engine replacement is less $$ than outboard, and they look way cooler

Leave it inboard. If you want an outboard version and can't find an actual Savage, get a Sceptre, remove windshield add the cc of your choice, and put the windshield in the rafters for when you're old and gray and tired of getting wet. Likely less work and fully reversible.
An inboard like that is a rare bird and and has a special customer. Sounds like it could be you...Lucky Dog! ![]()
