Default Drain hole, in floor live well 23' SeaCraft CC?

As winter approaches I again fear the following scenario:

It rains. The in-deck livewell on my 23' SeaCraft Center Console fills with water. Temps drop below freezing for a week and the livewell freezes solid.

I have always thought that this filling and freezing would bust something. Has anyone had any problems with this? Has anyone considered drilling a drain hole in the bottom of the livewell as a drain when the boat is on the trailer? This hole could be drilled to the size of a standard boat plug, and plugged when the livewell was in use.

Just a thought. Any other ideas? Irrational concern?

Thanks, Jeremy

Could you just pour 4 or 5 gallons of rv anti-freeze in it?

Ice takes the path of least resistance you will only have problems with ice breaking things where the pressures can be traped. In a live well the Ice is contained on only 5 sides leaving the sixth side for the release of pressure. I would be more concerned with water traped in hoses and engine components which is taken care of during winterization. RV anti freeze works great for for any place you have worries.(even the Eco-friendly stuff)
