Great spot Dixon. Easy access to ramps and civilisation and Gulf. Pretty good area for fishing. Google Earth has a picture of someones campsite on the island. My Daughter lives about 1 1/2 miles from the Causeway so I'm kinda familiar with the area. For a primative campsite it's real close to anything you would need. It's about a 3 hr. drive from Area 442 (East Central FL)

Actually the spot was featured on a TV show Reel Animals in a winter setting. The NW end had at least 1 or 2 boats on it the entire time we were there, although the water temp was so cold the only time saw a fish cuaght was Sunday after a bit of warm up, the south wind I'm sure had something to do with that.

We are going to try and do another trip on 1/14-17, the weather at this time of year makes any planning impossible though but maybe later when its more stable we can do something more.

If you look at Google Earth, there is a boat anchored right where I unloaded - the otherside would have been a bit longer walk. When we got there the water was 57 and it literally hurt to walk in it, on Sat we moved the campsite to the otherside (N) to the most beautiful of spots and loaded from the the northside - water was up to 61 so wasn't that bad - kinda.

I caught fish easily by going back inshore in the bayou where it was 64 and I saw people catching trout on Sat when we went in for wood, Jimmy the Cat was happy for that, little baitfish showed back up on sunday when it warmed (kinda) up at the island, the wading birds were hurting as there was nothing.

It would be great in April and we will be there I will bet, much closer for the guys down south and to the north.

The nice thing is there are so many different campsites for any wind direction and weather, sheltered or open depending on what is happening - except dead summer
