Default Question About Possible Purchase

Hello all. I am very interested in purchasing a SC from my uncle and I'm not sure what would be a fair offering price. He may just give it to me when I ask him about it, but I want to have a figure in my head before I approach him. The boat is a 1973, 23', ib diesel. The last time the boat was in the water was around 1996. It has been stored under roof and appears to be in solid shape, but obviously will need a lot of work. Hard to say about the condition of the engine and drivetrain, but I wouldn't expect it to be good after sitting for 15 years.
I have great memories fishing from this boat and would love to see her on the water again.
Any advice from the experts would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
John

I would take it to a good local marine shop and get them to assess what it would take to get the boat in good running condition and then take in consideration the condition of the hull and trailer, if one, and go from there.

BEWARE...I'd imagine there are more than a few guys that frequent this site that would surrender the left portion of a precious part of their anatomy to find out where the boat is located

Are you sure about it being a 73? They didnt make the inboards until 1975.

I guess I'm wrong about the year because it does have an inboard. Might even be a later model than '75. Not really sure about that. I'm gonna get some pics of it and post them.

I think I'll keep its locatin to myself..

What kind of diesel does it have?
Don't be so sure it's junk, you might be able to save it!

Yes - post some pics.
Being that's it's been sitting so long, and it's your uncle, you might be looking at a sweet opportunity.

For a price, I would venture 1500-2500 for the hull. Another 7000 for the motor.

Keep in mind I have no idea what motor, or what shape the hull is in. I literally just made those number up in my head.

There is a really nice awlgrip hull that as posted for $19K, and I thought that was a fair price. And I have seen at least 3 ib diesel 23s (running) go in the 25K to 30K range, over the past year or two.

Someone, please correct me!
