I took the Fishalot II out of Destin Inlet yesterday just to get out on the water. There was a SCA in effect, but I had to stick my nose out to taste a little salt spray. I mean, I was feeling like I'd been shut up in a cave for months, so once I had the boat on Choctawhatchee Bay, with East Pass Inlet right there, I just HAD to take a look outside.
First off, it wasn't as bad as NOAA was saying it was. NOAA said it was 5'-7', I say it was 2'-4', with an occasional 6' or 7' roller. Too big to get up on plane, but Oh Boy, the salt spray felt magnificent!! To my amazement, I was the only vessel of ANY size in sight. Mind you, the mouth of the inlet was pretty confused and bumpy, but the air was 83*, the sea temp at about 1/2 mile offshore was 64*, and there was a giant school of pilchards out there with something absolutely tearing them up, my guess being Spanish mackerel. It was glorious. ![]()

I've been in Marathon since Feb 23 and the weather has been perfect. There was an SCA in effect 3 days ago but we decided to head into the Gulf out of Vaca Cut and the conditions could not have been better. Lots of Spanish for us with some cero, snapper and occasional shark mixed in. With the winter we've had in MA it sure felt nice to feel the sun again and catch some fish. Unfortunately it comes to an end tomorrow but it was great while it lasted.
