Default Ethanol take a shot across the bow

Today the Senate overwhelmingly voted to cut ethanol subsidies.

I grew up in Iowa, have gone to several Farm Aid concerts, support family farms, and my brother recently had to sell his farm which was sad because it was a great spread; but ethanol sucks and I hope this policy proves beneficial for all in the end.

Hopefully this will lead to pure gas for my old boat, but I won't hold my breath. What it will lead to is more and more subsidy cuts. Hopefully our fearless leaders will cut the fat rather than the cheese...

McGillicuddy, I pretty much agree with you.

Take ethanol. Use of it, as in current practice, raises prices of gasoline/energy, raises taxes for ethanol subsidies, raises maintenance/repair costs of the epuipemnt it is used in and, if that was not enough, raises food costs for everyone. In a period when everyone should be looking for ways to put money into the hands of consumers inorder to drive this consumer driven economy, each gov't "program" should/must be reviewed in context of progam objectives and success of accomplishment/ duplication. Start at the least productive and have a Bon Fire of Inefficiency!
Once that is done, THEN we can begin to recast the survivors to be more efficient/successful. Just my 2cents.

'bout time. First thing to come out of DC in recent memory that makes sense. Is it expected to get O'Bama's approval?

Yeah, pretty sure Mr President approves. It was his idea. He'll enter the Iowa caucus with a best for everyone spiel and win over the voters with more wind turbines and reminding them that they are the breadbasket of the world. Much better to use grain for beer and food than for cars
