Ive got a 87' 20' sf. I have searched around and looked at the brochure for the 82' which says the max weight is 1500lbs. I'm guessing based on reading other threads that is for persons, gear, and engine.
I have 450lbs of engine and battery 420lbs of gas when full ~200lbs gear? (I'm guessing between fishing and safety) Then I have to factor in electronics and rigging? So to be under the legal limit of weight I can have about 3 men? Is this right? |

The max load capacity rating for a vessel does not include full fuel load, that's merely part of the vessel's max gross displacement. It does include propulsion machinery only when that propulsion is externally mounted, i.e., an outboard motor. Max capacity does not include inboard or stern-drive weight in vessels so equipped.
The max persons rating is based upon 140 lbs average per person. That's the average weight of all persons: including men, women, and children in the average. Obviously, if those persons are adult men, you need to re-figure.

Fr. Frank,
Im slightly confused because you contradict something written in the specifications section. For a 20 SF it states "Outboard capacity - maximun total weight, persons, motor and gear in lbs -1508" the way that reads I would conclude the motor is to be included in that figure. Am I mistaken?

I said, Quote:
In a stern-drive or inboard, the listing is normally "Maximum capacity: Persons and gear", (motor is omitted) as the propulsion machinery is part of the vessel weight, not the vessel's capacity.
