Tank vents on a 20 center console
What type of vents are you running on your 20's? I have a 1973 and put a new tank and all new lines in it this past winter and added a second vent, both are located on the port side midship. For the third time this year I am having issues of saltwater getting in the vents and getting into the tank. The tank and lines have all been pressure tested and checkout perfect. The vents are facing towards the stern. I am looking to see what is recommended by others in an effort to conquer this ongoing issue!

Sounds like operator error to me.

Re: Tank vents on a 20 center console
I've read that vent lines are supposed to travel in an upward direction and then loop back down toward the tank in the bottom of the hull (this describes the vent hose coming from the vent on the side of the boat). That way water splashing into the vent cant go directly into the tank. Hope this helps.

Re: Tank vents on a 20 center console
I have a master angler, but I run the vent out the side of the console. It that is wet 4 feet above deck that's an issue.

Re: Tank vents on a 20 center console
That's where mine is, on the starboard side of the console. Curiously, the first time I "filled it" (filler is port side, top of console...yuck!), moderate flow, it burped twice, spewing fuel across the top of the console. Then, it didn't shut off when full and actually pushed fuel out the vent. What a mess...
I assume that's normal, and I just have to be more careful about flow rate, and always keep a towel/cloth around the filler hole.
