Default Repower for 72' CC 250 enough?

He guys I am going back and forth in the debate about what I am looking fo re-power with. I bought the "Green Runner" (here is an old for sale thread from thehulltruth http://www.thehulltruth.com/boats-sa...-seacraft.html ) which I have seen talked about on here and another sight before. When they rebuilt that I am pretty sure they overbuilt everything (which is great). It holds about 230 gallons of fuel, not that I would ever carry that I don't think. I am thinking it will average about 80 gallons of fuel. It has a 45 gallon livewell towards the transom. So fuel and a full livewell alone will add about 800lbs.

The boat has a bracket which originally had twins on it. When I used the boat this year it had twil 200 merc efi's. The thing was a rocket ship, much faster than I needed. Also it was terrible on fuel.

I am looking to poll the experts on whether you think 250 will be enough power or not. I want to be able to cruise between 25-30 with a load and I will be more than happy. I don't want the boat to be a dog that struggles under a load or has trouble getting on plane.

What do you guys think?

A single 250 will push the boat just fine- Dont expect it to be as fast but will get a lot better gas milage- good luck

Thanks guys.

What year is your boat? Any idea how heavy it is compared with a 72 potter hull?

I am not sure what the Hermco bracket is like or how the performance compares with the armstrong bracket mine has.

I should have weighed the boat to see how much heavier it is now than it was before it was rebuilt, but I didn't. It is at rest for the winter now.

i am sure weight added in restoration is insignificant , depending on original condition and materials used in restore it might be lighter, i run a 76 restored 23 with a 225 yami 4 stroke cruise at 4300 at 32 at 2.7 gph. wot 44 @ 2 mpg. average loads and seas. I would put a new tree hundred on it if it was mine and let her eat. My 2 cents nice boat , i had though about tackle drawers under transom bailtwells. i will have to see if i can make them fit.

Godsreel; there is no longer a baitwell in the transom, I kind of wish there was to be honest. The rebuilder used that area for the fuel management/vacuum gauges/racors. The livewell is now in the tech right in front the bilge access. The livewell works pretty good, but the pump system getting the water out of the boat is imperfect since it is below deck. The tackle drawers are nice, there are 4 different sets of tackle storage, however I really only need one. I rarely fish artificial baits so my tackle selection is pretty much just hooks, leader, swivels, weights, and balloons.

Keep the input coming. I appreciate it.

I will agree a 300 would also work but 250 is fine - depends on what you find

230gallon fuel capacity? That's insane on a 23ft boat . . . go with any large displacement motor 250. I saw that boat fishing chatham.
