Hey guys looking to put leaning post in my 20ft sf. Does anyone know how long of a screw i can use without damageing anything under the floor?

To keep space to a minimum, I'd try to use a backing plate of stainless on each side with short but stout bolts and washers myself. Also you'd have less chance of spider cracks and better spreading of stress. Don't go with a toggle bolt, though.

On my Master Angler, when I removed the leaning post, the fuel tank hatch was probably 3/4" thick. My replacement 45 gallon tank was probably 2" below that. just enough for a hard right angle 1-1/2" filler tube.
I seem to recall 2-1/2" screws holding in in. But those screwed into the hatch didn't need to be that long. Some screwed into the stringers on either side of the hatch and they did most of the work. The suggestion of pulling the hatch and bonding on a backing plate- maybe 1" plywood- sounds good based on what I saw. This is for an outboard configuration, in case it wasn't obvious. Hope this helps. Last edited by FishStretcher; 01-14-2012 at 11:38 AM. |
