I have slowly and quietly been working on my 1972 20SF since I bought it last year. it has a 1996 Suzuki 115 on it with just over 300 hours. it looks like it had some serious work done in the mid 90's and most of it has held up pretty well. So far I have replaced the seats with a Taco leaning post, added a chart plotter and resurrected the canvas that came with it. I also repainted the nonskid on the deck.
This weekends project was slightly more urgent as I smelled strong gas fumes in the bilge and found the fuel filter was so corroded it had started leaking fuel. I tried to unscrew the filter but managed to crack it. I drained the filter and tried to remove it with a screwdriver through the side of it. I ended up removing the whole assembly and replacing it with a new stainless assembly with better access for easier maintenance. (once you break out the framing hammer and the vice grips, "gentle" is out the window) I also included a pic of the boat ready for a day on the water. cheers, TuffGuy

we use the dodger every time we go out. my wife and daughter like being out of the wind underway and the casting deck with a cushion underneath it provide prime nap space for the kid (currently 1 year old). happy baby = more boat time = happy dad. the dog likes it up there, too.

I don't know if there is some way you could mount it a little further away from the battery

I originally thought it was an 18 too because of the proportions, but it because of the larger aftermarket console- which is great when you are standing behind it, but not as great when you are trying to move around the boat.
I had the same thought about the filter location next to the batteries and the only reason I left it where it was is because one of my next projects is to move the batteries (there is another one right next to the one you can see in the pic) under the console for better weight balance. Eventually, it will get a full transom and a bracket- hermco if I can scrape together the cash or a homebuilt copy of strick's if money is tight (isn't it always?)
