Default 20 or 23?

I bought a 78 20MA for a project. Im doubting now that I will have enough room. I will always have at least 4 or more on it. It will always stay on a lake with possibly one trip a year to the coast. Im considering a 23. What are some thoughts from those that have or have had both? If I cant find a bigger SC, what are the opinions on other brand hulls? Im not against gutting a cuddy hull to make a larger CC. There are lots of 22-27' cabin cruisers for $1000 or less local to me, but Im not familiar with what some of the older quality boats are.

Lots of deals out there on 23 cuddy version you could turn into a nice savage like model. For my money 4 people fishing on a 20 is crowded, although a 23 seacraft is a big boat for a lake . I see nice 23 seacraft cuddy version all the time around here for 4-6 grand ready to go with little work needed. good luck

Thanks for the reply. We have some big boats on Keowee and Hartwell. 30'+ on Hartwell with some big horsepower. Twin 454s and such. I would still be the lil guy with a 23....lol. 77SceptreOB has a 23 for sale. He has already started on the removal of the cuddy, but has a deposit on it. Hes not sure if the guy will show. He hasnt heard from him in a while so I may have a shot at it. I did find a 25' Grady White cc with triple axle aluminum trailer with twin Yam 200s for $2000. It sunk the motors and back half but didnt make it to the console. Has Ttop and electronics box. could part it out if its not worth fixing. Seems like a good deal. Would rather stay with a SC though.

Those 20MA's are super nice but certainly close quarters with 4. The 23 would be ideal. Turning a Sceptre into a Savage model is a good idea and one I considered. The cuddy's are not terribly big and consequently there is a lot of deck space. I always thought a Sceptre with a hardtop but small center console with controls would be pretty cool. Good luck and I sent you a PM, Steve

I agree with Blackfin....I have a 2000 23 seacraft cc currently and my dad and I owned a 1978 20ft master angler for about twenty years. We would fish four offshore without any problems, but certainly not nearly the space as the 23.... Obviously, it is cheaper to run the 20 though, so there is a definitive benefit. Also, the 23 will require a bigger/stronger towing vehicle. I upgraded to a 3/4 ton truck which was not cheap........ the 20 ft. master angler is a very nice vessel. In my opinion, it is the best in its class.......

Being that your on the lake I would look for a Moesly SeaCraft Bowrider 19. A bowrider like Carla and Skips would be the shizzle and they do turn up somewhat cheap down south. I even found one in Wisconsin but I think one of these bums beat me to it.

If you can get your hands on that Sceptre that would be awesome for family and friends. I would not remove the cuddy. Maybe the windshield, but that cuddy is sweet for many reasons. The cockpit is like a soccer field... keep the cuddy, if you go that route. Teens love 'em, moms love 'em, babies love 'em, women love 'em....

Well the 23 Sceptre I was looking at sold. Im prob going to get the Grady tomorrow. If I dont like it I can always part it out & make my $ back. May even keep my eye open for a 23 hull & gut the Grady & sell the Grady hull.

SteveH I already have a 3/4 ton so thats $ is already spent.

McGillicuddy, weve already had a 19' speed boat & a 21' cuddy boat. The speed boat got sold after I crossed up another boats wake & went airborne. Mama said she wouldnt get back in it. It didnt have any V so you felt everything. Both didnt have the room we wanted. I thought the 20 MA would have more room since it didnt have a cuddy but it sure feels small standing in it. It will be on here for sale as soon as I figure out the pay thingy.
