Hello, new to the forum
Hi everyone,
So I am on here because I found this site to be really informative. I am in my mid 20's, I grew up in New England fishing and boating. I love striper fishing, and have always had my father's boat (not really ocean worthy, very small and can't get me out far enough) or friends' boats. Now it is time for my own. I come to realize that it is far fetched for me to afford a brand new cc right now. So I have researched different hulls to rehab and found the sea craft hulls to have very classic, and sea worthy lines. I figured if I put the sweat equity in a quality vessel that it can last me for a very long time. I am very handy, and willing to put quality time in a boat. I'm looking for a 23' cc, preferably an ob. so my questions...... With sea crafts, everyone talks about the positives (which are a lot) what are some negatives about the hulls that people have found when they rehabbed a boat? These hulls proving to be rather difficult to find, where are people looking? and does any one have any leads? If I were to find just a hull, what is a good trailer size to transport? Any info will be greatly appreciated, thanks |

Negatives? People love their SeaCrafts and find it well-worth the effort to restore. Anyone "in the know" will advertise their boat here. Otherwise on Craigslist. Good luck in your hunt.

If you didnt like the color on the boat I guess that could be a negative. You can change that thoe, just ask Obama. He knows a lot about change.

Welcome aboard! You might want to check out 65 Bowrider's website at http://www.moeslyseacraft.com/ to learn more about why the designs are so highly regarded by racers and professional boat builders. "The Amazing Mr. Moesly" article in the Literature section is definitely worth reading!
Very few negatives on a SeaCraft hull; most negative things you'll find were created by the previous owners, who didn't know how to properly mount hardware on cored decks & transoms, leading to rotted decks and transoms. And you'll find an occasional dumb modification, like structural bulkheads cut away to install bigger gas tanks and foamed-in gas tanks! Probably the most common mistake I've seen on the smaller models like the 18 - 20 footers is that folks don't realize how efficient the variable deadrise hull is, and that it was designed for motors of less than 300 lbs, so they install a 500 lb motor and maybe a bracket without doing anything to correct the resulting CG shift, and then they wonder why it won't plane at 12 mph like the original Moesly designs did!
