FF - looks like a nice find; you're well on your way to having a complete SeaCraft collection! That's a later model Seafari . . . deck has been raised an inch or two and the windshield has been moved forward about a foot relative to earlier models, creating more room for instruments and electronics behind the windshield. If it's an outboard version, it will also have a 50 gal gas tank instead of 34-35 gal. that was standard on the earlier version. After you finish your 20' Sceptre, you'll find that the Seafari cockpit is only about 6" shorter, and it's got a whole lot more dry storage room in the cabin. It's really a very versatile model.

I'm very impressed with all the room on it vs the scepter. Way way more room up front. I think two people could actually sleep in the cabin area. Hope it has the higher deck height. I will check the scuppers to see if they look deeper than the older style ones. I knew the did the deck but didn't know about the windshield move. It is an outboard so maybe a larger tank. I checked the vin and it is a 1974. What year did they make the changes? Neat information, don't know much about this model and appreciate the info. I like the lay out and see why so many people like it.

The bunks are 6'5" long, so yes, the cabin is very comfortable. Have spent as many as 3-4 days aboard at one time on trips all over Fl. and the Bahamas, including this one in 2010. http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...avigation+trip Carl and Jeanne Moesly made the same trip in an I/O Seafari years ago that was the inspiration for that trip. The hatch design is brilliant, because by placing the hatch on a sloping surface, when you open the hatch, it becomes a big wind scoop, which is a big deal in S. Fl.! Mine has the original velcro-edged screen that fits over the hatch opening; combined with the screen on the cabin door, it makes the cabin mosquito proof (once you seal the opening for wiring in the bulkhead behind the IP)!

I think 1974 was the first year for the new cap, which that boat definitely has, because it has the added panel at the bottom of the windshield which the older models don't have. The distance from the V of the windshield to the hatch is about 18" on my boat but only about 6-8" on the newer cap. The wells around the scuppers should be 2-3" deep instead of only 1" if it has the raised deck. The only downside of the bigger gas tank is that the cabin step down is much smaller, just big enough to open the door. On my boat it's big enough to set a 70 qt cooler there; that's real handy because it won't slide around in rough seas plus it moves weight up forward where it improves the ride in rough stuff.
