hydraulic steering for me?
I've got a 25 seafari, 5.7, volvo sx duoprop drive with an antique and out of production ride guide cable system that has some cracks in the outside of the cable. That part still works fine, but I suspect lifetime is limited. The Volvo power steering ram has bad seals, after about 600 hours since the last replacement and the belt system for the power steering pump, I don't like at all. Thinking about a different system.
I'd like to go to non power assisted hydraulic steering (Sea Star?) and get away from all the problems with the current setup. Will the non power assisted hydraulic system give me nearly the same ease of steering that I have now? If I can't get away from the power steering pump, is it possible to retrofit another steering cable system to what I have? Thanks Connor |

SeaStar's helm is the manual pump; when you turn the wheel you're turning the pump. I would hate to not have it.

I came across this thread a while back search for info on a volvo 290 drive. There are some pics and info on hydraulic steering setup.
