I have an older Garman 530 and it looks like or I can pick up a GXM 31 to get XM weather. Any thoughts?

Mel and I would love to go with the newly refirbed sled but I just can't commit to travel plans when 3 party work is being done on the boat. Done by dates seem to only be an estimate.... that and Mel has been requesting add ons.
The offer is still out there! The boat is going to be sweet when it's all done!

I have an XM antenna for my Garmin 640 and it works pretty well. Depending on what subscription package you get, you can get weather radar, buoy reports with wind, wave heights (but only in 3' increments!), etc. A side benefit is that with an accessory cable I can plug the audio output from the Garmin into a Bose Ipod Sound Dock or even a stereo after I finally installed one, and get satellite radio.

Default GPSMap 530 XMWX weather

That is a great visual with those rain clouds! So, I've been on the phone with Garmin to get the adapter cable numbers to find an aftermarket set on Amazon and I just lowballed an offer on a weather antenna which the seller excepted for $75 . The cables do have the audio output for satellite radio, like you mentioned. It looks like the fisherman package for 29.99 seems to be the one that I will probably get. Called the owner of the restaurant next to my rental house On Guana Harbor to see if he had some extra space on the dock… he just opened up a new restaurant down the way and said I could use the dock for the whole time I'm there! It looks like I'm just going to have my iPhone with navionics app utilizing the GPS chip as a back up to my Garmin. Oh yeah, I also found a G2 vision SD card for the entire US in Caribbean for $75. It looks like I might get a handheld VHF with the new DSC button on it.

My apologies! I think the term is discount quality! That should be our new motto! That dang DSC handheld VHF is going to kill me though… $200 bucks minimum!

Well, the crossing was quite bumpy and it rained at least half the time. Never saw the sun until after we cleared customs at noon time. 13-15 knots. The ride on the Bahama bank was flawless. Sitting at Grand Cay right now. This could have been a CSC gathering! Next year brethren!!
