Default I/O rewiring on a 23'CC

I have a ‘73 Seacraft cc that has the original wire and needs to be replaced. My question is there is a slave start solenoid besides the one on the Chevy style starter. Is the slave solenoid needed or can it be eliminated from the system. Seems like one more component that could fail. Thanks in advance for your advice

yes, eliminate possible problems. I only have the starter solenoid on my i/o I have also removed the Mercruiser wire harness and went with a one wire alternator from dbelectrical and a one wire distributor from DUI.

Thanks DB
I am rewiring every component with 12Ga wire, have also added electronic kits to the point distributers. You think a 12 ga wire is enough for the starter solenoid.
