Default Sealing my Center Console

I need to seal my center console to the deck. I am assuming this is done just to keep water out and that it doesn't need to help adhere the CC to the deck. Is this correct? Is it Ok to just use Home Depot silicone or should I be using 4200 or something else.

Thanks for any input.

Rob

I'd use BoatLife Life Seal, it's a silicone/polyurethane hybrid. Good (but not crazy) holding power, cleans up easy, and has good cosmetic properties.
Not too difficult to remove later on.

For something stronger go, 3M 4000UV. Straight polyurethane (technically polyether), but has 11 herbs and spices added to keep it from turning yellow in the sun.
Very difficult to remove.
4200 will yellow and get chalky.
