Default The HiLiner GYPSY 222 Restoration

I purchased what appeared to be a well maintained vessel, the owner had told me the boat was dry docked for seasons, and had maintenance done frequently. So I gave the boat a best of my knowledge look seeing that I never purchased a boat I watched a few videos and tried following what to look for. The floor was solid she started up but had old gas so it wasn’t run long, upon trailering the boat home one of the leaf springs popped and the trailer tire started rubbing against the wheel well. I won’t bore anyone any longer the boat was towed to my house, and now I begin to correct the neglected vessel.

The first thing I tackled that I could afford was some gel coat work the hull had a bunch of deep scratches along the port side they weren’t down to the glass but deep enough I didn’t need to dremel them out, the starboard side looked like there was some gel coat patch work done, the gel coat was dotted on and never sanded down and buffed out these areas were sanded down and then wet sanded.

The seats had appeared to be in a folded down position but were just broken and the wood underneath securing it to the brackets were totally rotten. As a closer inspection of the dash area I noticed a few spots that were showing fiberglass so those areas were filled with bondo glass and gel coated. As soon as I’m able to upload pictures I will.

Here is a question or two for anyone that has any knowledge about the Gypsy 222 there isn’t a capacity plaque on the boat and I need one so any information or pictures would help so I can make one, second question is the windshield wiper is missing, what can I replace it with? I would like to keep the windshield wiper on the boat.

Post some pics so we can see what you are looking at. Congrats on the find. The HiLiner is a great hull; Ray Hunt designed it and it is VERY similar to the 20 Bertram (and 31) that he designed earlier. I haven't seen a HiLiner capacity plate and I seriously doubt any coasties have so you can probably just design your own. Xcomunic8d had one done recently and I think he said where he got it in one of his threads. If it is a sterndrive you don't need HP on it. Do you need the wiper and motor or just the arm system? there are several available on the market - both are off-the-shelf items but are kinda spendy.

Someone on here, I can't remember who, got one a few years back in the NE - I think it was a Sportsman model or something like that. If you search the old posts you should be able to find it. When you do, reach out and see if you can get an image of the plate.

Default Capacity plate

So I’ve done a search here in this forum but haven’t found the person with a similar boat in which I can get a picture of the plate, I was able to contact Nauset marine sales and talk to someone in the parts Department whom would go down back wherever down back would be and talk to the old boat builders and hopefully get some direction.

Look for a Yankee Voyager (Boston Whaler) nameplate too - I think they are pretty much the same.
