Veterans
Jim,
Your friend Phil sounded like a great guy. He's one of the many Vietnam Veterans that served their country in a war that was heavily contested by many Americans. My uncle was also one of those veterans. He lost a lot of his neighborhood friends during that war. Myself, I remember going down to the draft board, filling out the paperwork, taking the physical and awaiting my turn to be called up for duty. Luckily for me, that notification never came. This group of veterans served their country when asked (or demanded) and were never treated with the same homecoming and respect they were due. That's a dark day that Americans should always remember and learn from. What comes to mind is CCR's Fortunate Son. RIP Phil. Thank you for your service, sacrifice and know that you will be missed and thought of often by your friends and family. Barry |
