Default inboard folks - engine/trans. mounts

I'm beginning the chase on some vibration @ 3000rpm on a 1975 Sceptre inboard powered by a Marine Power 350 and Borg Warner V-drive. The first shot was to pull the prop. and have it balanced. That's done - test run this weekend I hope.

Next the shaft maybe or alingment? I'm trying to look ahead and if re-alinement is necessary, the engine and tranny mounts are ugly. If I have to touch them I'd rather replace them. Anyone done a replacement or know who the manufacturer of the mounts may be or who to ask? Someone purchased these items for Seacraft in 1975.

Sounds to me like your cutlass bearing is possibly failing. With the wheel off ,pull on your shaft , if there is any play then your bearing is probably hosed. i understand that boatyards have a tool that will remove it right over the shaft. Last one I did I ended up removing the whole shaft first, then the strut, took it to the yard to get the old removed and the new one pressed into place. Is the problem just at 3000, or from there on up?. craig

Also Mark, I am pretty sure the motor mounts are the same used by most inboard and some I/O applications.(generic) You should be able to get them /order them at most boatyards etc and possibly boat-us. Good luck, let us know what you find , craig

Sea trial 2 was yesterday. New fuel tank and rebuilt deck above, reconditioned prop. and many new hoses, clamps, belts and electrical connections.

She ran exceptionally well. The drivetrain seems fine. The transmission cucked a little fluid out the vent on a long high rpm run (4000 for 4-5 min.)but otherwise she ran nice.

Boy, these boats real are a nice ride. I've been on many of the same size I/Os and outboards and with exception of a '75 Slickcraft this boat's ride is superior to all of them.

She's a keeper!

Mark: Congrats on joining the IB club, thats a really rare boat. Sounds like you solved the vibration issue? What's your speed at 4000? I have a 1975 IB CC, the ride is smooooth...

Jeff: One of 26 made so Trayder tells me. I have no way, at this point, to tell how fast she is. I'd say it's near 40mph @ 4000rpm. Redline is 4400 but I have no desire to push that hard.

I thought I'd poll about Borg-Warner transmission fluids. I believe the CCs have straight drives where the Sceptre is a V-drive. Same fluid requirement though. I'm finding the right thing to be a Dextron III with an Allison C-4 rating. Anyone??
