Not sure if I asked this yet but here goes:
I want to purchase a new trailer for my 23'. Eventually I want to add a bracket on the back. Do I need to buy a longer trailer to support the extra 3'? In other words do I need to purchase a trailer to fit a 26'? |

To answer your question simply, no.
The extra 3 feet hanging out the back will do just that, hang. None of the bracket will even touch the trailer so you do not need the longer trailer.

Popeye,
I agree with JohnS, but would like to add that an adjustment will be required to keep the tounge weight appropriate (i.e. if you move the weight back by adding a bracket, youu'll need to move boat forward a few inches or move the axles back a tad.

I have a bracket on my 23, and did not have enough room to move the winch stand forward to get the proper tounge weight on my original trailer. I went to a tailer that could handle a 25', giving me plenty of room for adjustment. It is a lot of weight hanging 30" from the back of the boat.

Just move the axels to change you toung weight. There is no need for the bigger trailer.
